Report to, I'd say, not a Slack issue.

Switched to Vesa framebuffer (from i810), still same behavior. Also
tried disabling all firefox extensions.
Strange! Has anyone experienced similar behavior.

This seems like a bug in Firefox, but it also seems like that bug
escalates to trig a bug in the X server. The fact that the entire X
server crashes is rather serious.

My first guess would be a bug in the driver for your video card. Could you
try to replace that driver with another driver like vesa and see if X
still crashes?

I just downloaded firefox 3.1 beta 3. It does not crash on that
wikipedia page. Guess will wait for release and update on slack-

So maybe the bug isn't in the video driver but somewhere else in
What about other web-browsers, are they also able to trig the bug?
Konqueror is not very close to Firefox, Seamonkey is a close relative to

Slackware 12 came with Firefox 2, do you still have also that version

I have a similar problem with Firefox 3.0.8 and Slackware 12.0 when I
try to log in for on-line banking. Firefox seg faults and closes, which I
found out by running it from a virtual terminal. It took me several tries
with Konqueror to finally do my banking, so maybe it's the website.

I've hit this bug on another distro, from what I remember it's to do
with font management in X clashing with something FF 3.0 does.

Fix looks likely to be newer versions of FF (3.1 as others have
mentioned) and X.
